Here is the debut album for the Swiss five-piece band, Climax. As you can guess by the title, Play Some Heavy, and by the artwork, these guys play classic, unrestrained heavy metal. Formed in 1998, the band saw some lineup changes before settling on the 5 young rockers that appear on this album. Fans of NWOBHM stand up and take notice. Although Evergreen is a self-cover album, much of it felt very new to me as I have never been able to purchase many of their older releases. The only song that I was familiar with was “The Way to the Hill” from their 2001 self-titled and the improvement between this version and the original is incredible; I love Nakamura’s new sexy lick at the beginning and the added jolt of dynamism incorporated into the main guitar solo. She topped the singles chart in the UK in 1988, and Germany in 1989 with her single “First Time”, which had come to the public’s attention via its use in a Coca-Cola commercial.
