Hard rock (or heavy rock) is a loosely defined subgenre of rock music which has its earliest roots in mid-1960s garage rock, blues rock and psychedelic rock. It is typified by a heavy use of aggressive vocals, distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and often accompanied with pianos and keyboards.

Los Angeles, CA – January 3rd, 2011 – Dirtbag / ILG / Warner Music Group is proud to announce the signing and debut release of recording artist Scarlet Haze. The band will be hitting the road in cities all over the US this Spring and Summer in support of the effort.Tour dates coming soon. The bands’ new album One Bad Bitch features performances by members of Guns N Roses and Nine Inch Nails. The first single “Reach Down” will be impacting radio on January 11th. The band is comprised of lead vocalist Kat Perkins and touring musicians Eric Warner (guitar), Steve McClurg (bass) and Peter Day Elledge (drums). The band tours extensively and has shared the stage with many national touring artists including Bon Jovi, Candlebox, Saving Abel, Vince Neil, Blackstone Cherry, Rev Theory and Bret Michaels of Poison. Kat’s sultry onstage persona is equally as dangerous as her music. Her attention to stage detail, musicianship, vocal ability and undeniable sexuality, both in attire and music, leave her fans both teased and pleased simultaneously.”Rock, like Scarlet Haze, is a full package,” says Kat, “it’s not just for the ears but the eyes as well – people just want to get off at a live show – and we aim to please!”
Scarlet Haze unleashes a truly fearless brand of hard rock on her Dirtbag / ILG / Warner debut. “Playing it safe is not something I back,” states Scarlet Haze lead singer Kat Perkins, “rock music is supposed to be dangerous.” Indeed, the band’s debut single “Reach Down,” which blends a hard edge melodic hook with sexy self pleasuring, is sonic proof of Scarlet Haze’s assault on safe music. “Reach Down,” says Kat, “is reactive and universal in subject matter because of its truth – everyone does it and that includes females.”
Scarlet Haze has amassed an impressive and loyal fan base, a who’s who of supporting musicians, a top-notch promotion / label team and is co managed by multi-platinum recording artist Disturbed’s bass player John Moyer-via Silver-Tongue Management.

To say Peepshow has gone through a transformation since their 2009 debut Out For Blood would be a huge understatement. Gone is the Wednesday 13meets Crashdiet sound that is being beaten to death lately, replaced by a more modern and almost robotic approach. It’s a big gamble for sure and one that could alienate the hardcore fans who helped their debut album sell out.
One thing you’ll notice right away is the influx of keyboard and string sounds on Brand New Breed. They add an entirely new element to the band, one that you may or may not buy into, and you have to wonder if someone got a new gadget as a gift and couldn’t help but play with it in the studio. At times it works really well and gives Peepshow a much more grandiose sound. A great example of this is “Live Free Or Die”, a great track that chugs along with the keyboards acting as icing on the cake — it immediately reminded me of the Babylon Bombs‘ over-the-top single “Liberation”.
“Trouble”, and especially the anthem “All Or Nothing”, harkens back to Peepshow‘s roots as they explode through the speakers. Both tracks take elements of the band’s humble beginnings and expand upon them. Even better yet is “Feed On Me”, a song that left me a touch cold during the verse, but managed to come together perfectly during the chorus. The title track and “Waking The Dead” are crunchy scorchers that speed into Shotgun Messiah‘s Second Comingera with Johnny Gunn growling and screaming for all he is worth, resulting in the album’s finest moments.
The ballad “Irreversible” without a doubt has cross-over appeal, as does the haunting “Only A Dream”, which means I personally didn’t care much for them. But if Peepshow is going for commercial success it may be these songs that give them their best shot at stardom.
Not content to become another face in the crowded sleaze scene, these Scottish rockers expanded their horizons and took a hell of a chance with Brand New Breed. This isn’t the type of music that I would usually listen too, but some unexplainable force keeps drawing me in — the disc as a whole is dark, moody, unpredictable and not afraid to push boundaries. Whether the band’s existing fan base agrees with the transformation found on Brand New Breed is debatable, but I give Peepshow lots of credit for not playing it safe.

Hurling you back to the late Sixties, complete with paisley shirts, is UK’s Stubb. This power trio brings heavy and psychedelic rock with damp basement production, little overdubs, and lots of fuzz. You might hear Cream or Hendrix in their vibe; it’s like listening to the early proto-metal or stoner rock only in the present.
Like their kin, Stone Axe or Grifter, Stubb get the whole early heavy rock thing, and produce an interesting and adequate platter of tunes. They’re just 40 years removed from yesterday. Recommended.

BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, the English-American rock band featuring the talents of bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, TRAPEZE, BLACK SABBATH), blues rock guitarist/vocalist Joe Bonamassa, drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN), and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER), will release its first concert CD, “Live Over Europe”, on February 28 on the J&R Adventures imprint. This two-disc CD follows up the October 2011 release of the two-disc DVD by the same name.
Recently named by Eddie Trunk and co-hosts as “Best New Band Of The Last 10 Years” on VH1 Classic‘s “That Metal Show”, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION taped “Live Over Europe” during its debut tour in the summer of 2011. On the album, the band blazes through 17 tracks, recorded in surround over three nights, playing to packed venues in Hamburg, Munich and Berlin. The setlist includes songs from both of BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION‘s albums — 2010’s self-titled debut and 2011’s sophomore release, “2” — including “Black Country”, “One Last Soul”, “Save Me”, “Man In The Middle”, “Cold” and “Song Of Yesterday”. Also included in the mix is “The Ballad Of John Henry” from Bonamassa‘s 2009 solo album and the DEEP PURPLE classic “Burn”.
Producer Kevin Shirley explains: “We saw that this live act could be an awesome force of nature to behold; one that promised legendary performances like those of our heroes of classic rock. The plan was to get them out there for the entire world to hear. Records allow a certain musical finesse, but live performance promises so much in the very transient nature of a gig; chances are taken, boundaries are crossed and the most exciting performances explode. Two studio albums built a repertoire big enough for a full concert which allowed us to unleash the monster for all the world to see and feel.”
