Glam rock (also known as glitter rock) is a style of rock and pop music that developed in the United Kingdom in the early 1970s, which was performed by singers and musicians who wore outrageous clothes, makeup and hairstyles, particularly platform-soled boots and glitter. The flamboyant costumes and visual styles of glam performers were often camp or androgynous, and have been connected with new views of gender roles.

Germany’s Syzzy Roxx were formerly known as Gamblin’ Crew and describe their sound as ‘poser rock’. My first thought is that these guys are kind of amusing. For a start they have a rather, errmm, unusual look (for want of a better description) and whether intentional or not, the bio on their official site is quite funny. For example part of what they say about their growth or transformation from Gamblin’ Crew to Syzzy Roxx goes like this, “the Crew was yet accused of just honouring the numerous variations of penetration, Syzzy Roxx go further than that. Political topics are being examined, such as the hostage-taking by full bosomed aliens” and so forth. Maybe it’s their sense of humor or maybe something got lost in translation. Either way, it’s all sounds quite odd but you can’t help but laugh.
From the Nordic contemplative Oldenburg come SYZZY Roxx, which as GAMBLIN’ CREW were on the road by 2005 and now have their second album under a new banner at the start. And I had not heard the disc thousand times, I would be sure to have inserted a classic from the hairspray era.

Fictional band from the mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap”. Nevertheless, the band repeatedly made and recorded a couple of albums.
Spinal Tap (stylized as Spın̈al Tap, with a dotless letter i and a metal umlaut over the n) is a parody English heavy metal band that first appeared on a 1979 ABC TV sketch comedy pilot called The T.V. Show, starring Rob Reiner. The sketch, actually a mock promotional video for the song “Rock and Roll Nightmare”, was written by Reiner and the band, and included songwriter/performer Loudon Wainwright III on keyboards. (more…)
