Doom metal is an extreme form of heavy metal music that typically uses slower tempos, low-tuned guitars and a much “thicker” or “heavier” sound than other metal genres. Both the music and the lyrics intend to evoke a sense of despair, dread, and impending doom.
From the vaults of the sickest Moscow lunactic houses comes the unstopable beast of Back Door to Asylum. For too long this death metal monster has been chained and now it unleashes all its technical madness of on all those who dare to witness its ferocity. Their debute album “Akathisia” boasts with insanely complex bass, inhuman vocals, thrilling guitars and uncompromising blasting, all embraced by the occasional touches of atmosphere. Devastating mass of “Akathisia” will be a challenging yet pleasing hyper-tech experience for all fans of Nile, Origin and Gorgasm.
Swedish veterans Shiftlight are fifteen years into their career but only one album which is this one and Distance is the name of it, the debut album that was released digitally last year and a physical copy will be out 2012. Fifteen years and the debut album being released on a small local label, why is that? One might think that they are not that impressive so that no label can be interested or something like that but considering what is being released on labels already I doubt that. So a question is wether they have gone the distance to make an impressive debut album, they are being compared to bands like Opeth or Cult of Luna in the press information, those are quite highly regarded bands so it is something to live up to for this trio.

Pursuing The End group formed in Parma, Italy in 2010. The following was released 4 song EP, songs from which were included in the collections, published in Italy and the U.S.. Having started as a purely Gothic / Symphonic Metal, but quickly evolved into something more difficult to classify. The group brings together different musical backgrounds ranging from classical to rock, from electronic music to extreme metal.
Staying true to a stripped down sound, the band’s sound can easily be described as traditional doom metal. From there, the band makes no attempt to hide their influences and mixes in a good amount of 80s heavy metal (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Candlemass, etc…) which creates a refreshing take on doom. As a result, there is plenty of up tempo and rhythmic riffage that’s combined with melodic vocals. While it may be front-woman Alexis that lays down the vocals, it may not be immediately obvious this is a female-fronted band. There’s not a lot of variation in the sound throughout the entire album, but then there really doesn’t need to be.
It is done. LETZTE INSTANZ has arrived at a long musical journey. The upcoming release “Ewig” is the last part of the trilogy and comes out with a flourish.
The black angel (artwork “Schuldig”, released 2009) and the white warrior (artwork “Heilig”, released 2010) will set forth for the final decision. The stories about life and all the big and small conflicts day-to-day have come full circle with “Ewig”.
LETZTE INSTANZ has ripened like a good wine over the years (14 since band formation). Countless concerts, shows in China and Russia, constant entries in the top positions of the German Media Control Charts could not satisfy the band – quite the contrary: they seek for more – the only explanation why “Ewig” has become so powerful, convincing and especially personal.
