Royal Hunt – The Best Of Royal Works 1992-2012. 20th Anniversary [Special Edition] (2012)
et’s be clear about something: when a band releases a greatest hits compilation without any new material, bonus tracks, re-recordings or remixes, it’s clear that their target demographic is not you, the longtime fan of the band. Rather, they’re attempting to reach out to people who aren’t already fans of the band by providing a mini-portfolio of the band’s previous work. Now, there are a couple ways to do this. By far the most common method is to pick and choose the band’s best tracks from their various studio albums, with certain albums being over- or underrepresented according to their quality. Other bands opt for a more “complete” approach; for example, I once saw an ASIA compilation that simply included the band’s first three albums in their entirety (even though it was not advertised as such). The legendary ROYAL HUNT opted for a different approach altogether for their “Heart Of The City” compilation.
