Dirt – Rock’N’Roll Accident (2012)
Here’s an interesting band from Germany: Dirt and their sophomore album Rock n Roll Accident. The band was formed several years ago by singer Sven Zaklikowski, after leaving a metalcore band with plenty of songs ready to go.
Getting specific about Dirt’s sound isn’t difficult. Rock n Roll Accident is essentially heavy rock, often nearing metal, powered by a strong groove and good melodies, and then nuanced with a touch of blues and Southern rock. Sometimes the heaviness can be dense, nearly plodding, as on Face Down, my least favorite track here.
Mostly, however, the songs are built upon that aforementioned strong rock groove delivered by strong guitar arrangements and a rather stunning and bristling rhythm section. Guitar solos abound as well, and Sven Zaklikowski is a fine hard rock singer. While the all the songs are strong, some simply jump from the player and grab your attention. Notable is catchy crushing groove of the opener Seven Days and the later Crush, the bluesy southern styled title cut, and the insanely catchy, radio-friendly wonder, Breathe In. Dirt even throws in a ballad with One Step Away.
Dirt’s Rock n Roll Accident is rather impressive and entertaining groove-laden and melodic heavy rock, a nice difference from much of what is playing in the mainstream today
