Rainbow – In Their Own Words [2006, DVD]
There is no harsher critic of a band’s output than the artists themselves, and the members of Rainbow have always been forthright in their criticism of their own work.
This penetrating independent film review draws on exclusive interviews with Graham Bonnet, Joe Lynn Turner, Bob Daisley, Bobby Rondinelli and Doogie White, alongside candid archive interviews with Ronnie James Dio and of course, the man in black himself: Ritchie Blackmore. This is the most frank and candid inside appraisal of the music of Rainbow ever produced, exploring why the music worked, and occasionally, why it didn’t.
Blackmore himself describes in the frankest manner, how the Blackmore/Dio partnership developed then fell apart, and how the band was able to overcome the loss of its singer and lyricist to reach a new level of commercial success. We also hear some rather less than complimentary views from his former Purple band mates…
This totally independent film was made with complete editorial control and has not been censored or reviewed by the interviewees. The film relies The exclusively on interviews from around the world given on television and radio and in the press by those who really matter; the band themselves. Essential viewing for every Rainbow fan.
