Push – 4 The Love Of The Game (2002)

coverPush was formed in Demark by ex-Sateria vocalist Martie Peters and guitarist Martin DaRic in 1994. The two had met through a newspaper add and immediately started writing songs. While in Sateria, Peters had recorded an album in 1991 titled ‘Cold Beer And A Hat Full Of Fun’, but would leave soon after its completion and the record would be shelved.

DaRic and Peters would shop some demos around and finally got a bite in 1995 from the Danish label Nordic Metal. They then set out to find a rhythm section and would soon fill the bass slot with Kasper Sogreen. The band went into the studio to record their debut with hired gun drummer Morten Camillo.

The band released ‘Maximum Entertainment’ in Denmark on December 14, of 1996 and in Europe in January or 1997. The record was also made available in the United States through Perris Records. With Camillo gone as soon as his drum parts were done the band would bring in skinsman Morten Plenge a few months after the records release.

Push then took their show on the road opening shows for Pretty Maids, Royal Hunt and Pink Cream 69, and would also headline a club tour of Belgium and Holland.

The band had started recording for their next album when DaRic decided to leave because he didn’t like the direction that the music was taking. Martin Slott was brought in to replace DaRic and soon after the band would sign a long term contract with the UK label Z Records. Push would spend the rest of 1998 writing new material and touring Denmark. They would also make an appearance at the Sweden Rock Festival which featured Alice Cooper, Motorhead, DAD and Dee Snider among others.

By the end of the year the band had finished their follow-up record ‘Shaken, Not Stirred’. It would be released on December the 18th in Japan through Dolphin Entertainment. It would get its European and American release on January 4, 1999. The band would again hit the road and open for Pretty Maids on a tour of Denmark.

During the fall the band would go back into the studio to record a new record. During the sessions drummer Plenge decided he had had enough and walked out before the record was finished. A fan suggests Tommy Adler as a replacement and the band brings him in to finish the record.

Push’s third album ‘On The Run’ is finished but weeks before it’s release Slott leaves the band. the band asks DaRic to rejoin the band and he accepts. ‘On The Run’ is released in Europe in April of 2000. The band went out on road again but by November DaRic is again out of the band and replaced by D.J. Post. Slott and Plenge joined the power metal band Iron Fire.

Recordings for album number four begin late in the year but by early 2001 the band completely falls apart. Peters decides to finish the record with friends/musicians in Copenhagen: guitarist Anthony Lledo (who co-produced the record with Peters), drummer Jesper Werner and filling in on bass was the man who had mixed all of Push’s records Jan Eliasson. ‘4 The Love Of The Game’ is released in 2002 and would mark the end of the band.

Martie Peters would put together MPG (Martie Peters Group) and in 2005 would release ‘Martie Peters Group’ on the MTM label. The record would feature guitarist Martin Slott from Push as well as Anthony Lledo and Jesper Werner, who had both worked on the last Push record, and bassist Bent Jorgenson. Also providing guitar on the record was ex-Sateria bandmate Rene Shades. The album also featured reworked versions of the Push tracks “Only Dreaming” and “Heart Is An Empty Space”, which appeared on the ‘4 The Love Of The Game’ record.
