WINGER – Live In Tokyo 1991 [Alive The Live Japan release only] (2023)
Many of you keep asking for more from the excellent “Alive The Live” CD series only available in Japan. This release from last year “Live In Tokyo 1991” features the mighty WINGER at the peak of their commercial success.
Recorded at Tokyo’s Yuubin Chokin Hall in March 1991, Winger’s performance for their growing Japanese fanbase is a solid amalgamation of the first two albums underpinned by a collection of signature hits in ‘Miles Away’, ‘Madalaine’, ‘Easy Come, Easy Go’, ‘Headed For A Heartbreak’ and ‘Seventeen’.
King Street Records / Alive The Live revisits this classic performance with a fully restored and professionally remastered original tapes, presented with background notes and timeline photos.
The show begins with ‘Madalaine’, the song that also opened their 1988 debut album and provided fans with their first taste of Winger courtesy of a debut single released in the same year. Their breakthrough hit ‘Miles Away’ fits nicely into the set, marking Paul Taylor’s rich contribution to the repertoire with a song that was originally aimed for his fiancée Emi Canyn, a member of the Nasty Habits, Mötley Crüe’s backup vocalists.
Songs from their latest album, ‘Easy Come, Easy Go’, ‘You Are The Saint, I Am The Sinner’ and ‘Rainbow In The Rose’ are performed with a lively feel, edgier than the studio versions. Talented Reb Beach cracks a fantastic solo too.
This is prime Winger territory, and highly recommended to all 80s melodic rock / AOR fans
