He was a member of Fleetwood Mac from July 1987 to 1991 after Lindsey Buckingham left it. Rick Vito has also played with Jackson Browne, Little Richard, Roger McGuinn, Bobby Whitlock, Dobie Gray, John Mayall, John Fogerty, Delaney & Bonnie, Albert Collins, Dolly Parton, Matrix, Bonnie Raitt and more.
