Decoy – Call Of The Wild 2007
Call of the Wild is the debut release from Swedish melodic rockers Decoy, which features former Grand Illusion vocalist Peter Sundell and former Fatal Force guitarist Torben Endvoldsen. The band has a nice melodic hard rock sound, just shy of being classified as metal, that is on par with bands like Evidence One and Tears of Anger.
Decoy’s sound is essentially a more muscular version of the Swedish melodic rock sound pioneered by Treat and Europe in the mid 80’s. There’s something about these Swedish melodic rock bands that just makes even an average release seem so much better than the competition. Honestly, Call of the Wild isn’t anything we haven’t heard before, but it’s just so darned melodic and catchy that you can’t help but love it. Endvoldsen really rips through these songs, giving them a definite metal edge (see Heavy Metal Thunder and My Religion), and Sundell’s powerful vocals add both energy and finesse, augmenting the album’s already classy and melodic style.
If you’re a melodic rock fan, and you favor bands that tend towards the heavier end of the spectrum, Call of the Wild is well worth checking out. It’s another great example of why Sweden is still the champion when it comes to melodic rock and metal.
