The Dirty Youth – Red Light Fix (2011)
Starting out in 2007, The Dirty Youth from Newport, South Wales finally release their debut album Red Light Fix. They’re clearly not afraid of hard work, and toured extensively in the last couple of years including appearances at Bloodstock and Download. Danni Monroe and the guys certainly look the part, and their video for “Fight” (see below) has raised expectations that they might actually be the real deal.
Whilst her striking looks are bound to grab most of the attention, Danni Monroe is a fantastic front for the band, full of attitude and energy she’s an excellent vocalist. The album is filled with bounce along punk rock pop songs that are going to make their future live shows a hell of a lot of fun to be at, but more importantly make this album incredibly accessable. The lyrics are not the strong point on Red Light Fix, but you’ll easily find yourself in sing-along mode as all the tracks are insanely catchy. The riffs are great, calling on influences from all over the place and push you to just get up and jump around. Based on this impressive debut The Dirty Youth have an exciting future ahead of them, the mass appeal of their sound might just mean you’ll be hearing an awful lot of them over the next few years.
