Lancer – Lancer 2013
Somewhere between EDGUY, IRON MAIDEN, HAMMERFALL and AVANTASIA is the Swedish band LANCER. In early 2012, they released the EP “Purple Sky” and got quite good due to the reactions a record deal with Swedish label Doolittle Group AB, which is led by vocalist Christian Liljegren (GOLDEN RESURRECTION, ex-NARNIA).
With their self-titled debut album would LANCER bring new wind into the power metal scene and to be honest, they succeed at some tracks quite well. With the opening track “Purple Sky,” which has also been recorded as a video, the guys show singer Isak Stenvall where the path of the album goes. The rhythm, the structure and great vocal lines sometimes more reminiscent of legendary “Keeper times” of HELLOWEEN.
This is also the track “Young & Alive” is in the same waters on the way. “Seventh Angel” ungeschaut could stand on one album from AVANTASIA here and would make a very good figure. Singer Isaac done a great job and remembers specifically the track “Starlight” very God of singing Michael Kiske, which speaks for the quality of front man.
Bottom line is that the guys from LANCER really exude class and with their significant singers have a great front man with whom they can convince the audience with their live qualities. Here, all access, which are on epic, anthemic metal, knowing Double Lead Guitars appreciate and can imagine, is to sound like a mixture of all the above mentioned bands. Old Swede, a great disc, I think that the band has not yet exhausted their full potential, but that is surely to come with the next CD yet
