I think reviewing a compilation album is a little bit crazy. But for a band like Bad Habit I will make an exception. For this simple reason: everyone who loves the melodic rock genre can’t keep-up with every AOR band in this world. So for everybody who hasn’t heard of Bad Habit before, this is a great opportunity to get to know the band.
[spoiler]
First a little bit history. Bad Habit formed in Lund, Sweden back in 1986. Guitarist Hal Marabel and now former keyboard player Doc Pat Shannon made in a year later their first EP called “Young and Innocent”. The track “Need Somebody” became a hit in Sweden and Bad Habit’s name was made. In 1989 Bad Habit dared to cover one of the holy grails of rock, Boston’s “More Than A Feeling” …what didn’t stayed unnoticed in the hard rock world. This cover appears on the album “After Hours” which is the best Bad Habit album in their discography. Bad Habit was one of the many 80’s bands who where struggling in the nineties and so the band split up in 1998.
Trough the years the Swedish five piece released five studio albums of which two albums completely where re-recorded in 2003 and 2004 “Revolution” and “Adult Orientation”. The tracks that made it on “Timeless” are the re-recorded versions. Thanks to these re-recordings Bad Habit made a second start. What resulted in the lastest studio album Above And Beyond that hit the stores in 2009.
So now thanks to record company AOR Heaven, Bad Habit returns once again and now with a greatest hits album called “Timeless”. For this one two brand new tracks were recorded. The first track “Turning Water Into Wine” is a song with a hard rocking 80’s sound. The second song “Rock This Town” is a song that doesn’t fit completely the Bad Habit tradition… so a bit strange that it made to the album. For the rest “Timeless” is filled with the catchy tunes, power ballads and crowd pleasers of Bad Habit.
