The Trick – Postcards from the Asylum (2014)

FrontThe work of the Tuscan group of The Trick, “Postcards from the Asylum”, comes with no liner notes and even looking on the internet the news is very scarce, except for the name or pseudonym of the best musicians involved (one on all the tenebrosissimo Bear Ass, guitarist and keyboardist), so it is difficult to reconstruct the history and evolution of the band and should be done, as they say Aerosmith, ‘Let the music do the talking’, leave room for the music.

After an intro speech in which a fake TV news tells of escape from the asylum serial killer Elvis, The Trick of the fast start with? There to the Place where the sun’s always shining in the sky ‘, whose riff is borrowed a timeless classic Deep Purple Black Night of the eternal. It ‘a piece of classic hard rock, which tells of that raids Elvis, with a nice chorus and atmospheres reminiscent of the great albums of the ’90s Alice Cooper, in particular Trash and Hey Stoopid.
Right from the start showed the high cohesion of the group and the good work of the guitars, both during rhythmic solo, as well as the excellent production. The next sensless is proof evident, with a sound as close as British hard rock, with veins of Billy Idol Dancing with myself and Rebel Yell. It ‘a song addictive, yet strong colors in hard rock, but with a carpet of keyboards particularly evident in verse and chorus.
From here on, the album is divided between pieces fastest, most notably Fast Love, a song that will certainly impact his best on stage, and Running Over Prince (Road to Hell) and slower tracks including Black Walls and the power ballad Who we are.
But it is not over, in fact the The Trick still have a few tricks up its sleeve: yet another ballad, the beautiful See the light, the song opens with an acoustic bell’arpeggio, and then explode in a crescendo where the electric solo would be the dream of any guitarist.
And not just because Postcards from the Asylum is closed by a small gem: Bittersweet Melody. As suggested by the title The Trick to us a skillful blend of sweet and bitter; backbone of the song is in fact a sharp riffs and distorted to Judas Priest, but, surprisingly, still leads to atmospheres and acoustic lens, and then return. All with a chorus that will remain seared in the brain at first listen. Truly a model of power ballad in which the pace quickens and slows wisely.
In short, even if it initially seems to be in front of a band that you take very seriously and want to fool around with the music, a more attentive listening to the The Trick really have much to say thanks to the undoubted skills of composition and performance.
