Janus Experiment – Michelangelo 2012

now/great

One may accuse the band what you want, just do not think they would fear complex projects. Make a historical theme, to make it a psychological interpretation and the whole thing einzuspielen as power metal concept album – respect!
However, it is thus in danger of being measured with considerably large scale.
For me, the album leaves a mixed impression. I know the story only from Michelangelo Buonarotti art historical and scientific perspective. To their personal development, his relationship with the family and the mentor I can hardly say anything. To his relationship with the Church and the Pope, I only know that it was complicated. The interpretations go so far as to say that Michelangelo was probably an atheist.
So I focus on the music times. And what I encountered there is power metal at its finest. Since there are intelligent arrangements, good quality craftsmanship and diversity. The band achieved success that the complex fabric of the music is back. Since there is no simple “Hau-top-metal”, these elements are packed with virtuosity, whether it be hammering drums and hammer fast guitar riffs and solos. Some of the orchestral and keyboard elements are something even applying thick, sometimes a little too sweet for a metal album.
Now for the conflicting area, which is clearly in the areas of voice and text. Because there is one part beautiful choral arrangements, convince the most votes, I am particularly those from Thorsten Borrmann and Heiko Ludwig. What I find an accident, are the texts. There are too many passages in which the text of the music is lagging. Such scarcely tolerable text expander, which attempt to compensate for the lack of fit on the notes, especially in the songs “Only A Picture” and “completion”.
This may spoil the overall impression but just a little. Seen over the whole thing here there is a firstling to hope to make more. The musical basis is solid and has a huge potential for development. Perhaps the band takes the next album before a substance, which is somewhat easier to implement, and their music is a little more weight.
