BRAD RUSSELL – LET’S HEAR IT 2012
NOW!
Having Joe Satriani in your corner lauding your skills is quite the credential. Of Brad Russell, Satriani has said, “Brad Russell is an amazing bass player and totally outrageous musician!” Nice.Educated at the University of Miami school of music, Russell has performed with a who’s who of great musicians including Mariah Carey, Clarence Clemmons, Greg Allman, Joe Walsh, Neil Young, Rick Derringer, Neal Schon, Joe Satriani, Billy Preston and more. What he does with his bass most guitarist wish they could do with their six-strings. His debut album Let’s Hear It! displays Russell’s exceptional lead bass guitar rock.
Excepting one guitar solo each on Zattack and Brothers, by Satriani and Kevin Russell respectively, every ‘guitar’ lead you hear comes from Russell’s bass and tenor bass instruments. He accomplishes with the help of a tremolo bar and effects pedals; yet he’s doing all the same things a ‘guitarist’ would do, like chords, fast picking, and tapping, but with his bass. As for the music itself, it’s best to call all the songs a pleasureable fusion of rock, jazz, and maybe even some funk and blues. It’s all rather impressive, and a signature accomplishment for Brad Russell. The only downside is that Let’s Hear It! clocks in at the length of an EP. Otherwise, strongly recommended for aspiring bass and electric guitar players everywhere.
