Tri State Corner – Historia 2011
Now!
One can say that there are no surprises left for us in music. We seem to have heard everything and everyone in all possible combinations and styles. Modern music lovers are very well-versed and it’s not an easy thing to surprise them. We live in the age where no pure genres are allowed though the mastery of performance is valued more than ever, people tend to mix and blend everything, change styles, try to collect the most distinctive features of each and make something original and truly eclectic. We know many bands combining heavy-metal with electronic and synthetic sounding, experimenting with folk instruments and very often a band sticks to the one chosen. So TRI STATE CORNER displays the similar situation: a bouzouki, which sounds much like an acoustic guitar in the Spanish style defines the approach of the band and becomes “the feature”. But it does sound original and sophisticated and I wonder why no one played like that before.
The reason of such freshness and authenticity may lie in a kind of cultural blending as well: the guys are from different countries and were brought up with different backgrounds. We know many other international bands like DREAM THEATER, X-WORLD-5 and even THE RAINBOW (though none of these bands used any rare instrument for promoting their style). Each country has its musical background, culture and traditions and the musicians grab this all almost unwillingly and fill their own music with these influences. The greatest effect is achieved in the combination with heavy riffs and melodic vocals. It doesn’t sound like total Spain in hot summer evening but as a wisely selected composition of elements. The absence of fashionable electronics and synthetic sounds in TRI STATE’s music is also worth mentioning, because sometimes it seems that none of the contemporary bands can do without it.
The album is easy to perceive and one can play it many times without getting annoyed. It consists of 12 rather short tracks and can be appreciated by the most diverse audience. This very fresh and nice record sounds relatively joyful and vivid. No need to mention about the musical skills and the quality of the recording.
